Ananas sativus

While not native to Australia, this species has long been a favorite fruit here, grown throughout the “sunshine state” in Far North Queensland, down the Eastern seaboard into northern New South Wales. It is native to South America, where the pineapple became known as a luxury item throughout Europe with its introduction in the 17th century. In skin care, it has been revered as a source of natural exfoliating alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs).
